Description of the event
|
The IBI Foundation, in collaboration with the IBI Centre, an innovative Human Capital Development Centre and other partners, has commemorated the INTERNATIONAL GIRLS-IN ICT DAY event yearly since 2016, hosting more than 820 girls from various schools in the Federal Capital Territory. These events have had an impact on participants; there are testimonials from invited schools of girls who are pursuing careers in ICT because they attended the Girls in ICT event. For this year’s event, We Care Bridge Builders Foundation is teaming up with the IBI Foundation to target an audience of 1500 girls which will include out of school girls and girls in IDP camps in 15 locations across the country. Distinguished speakers and panelists will address topics on opportunities in the ICT sector, professional development, education, and mentorship. Also, girls who have benefited from the initiative will share their experiences. Part of the event this year will be virtual, this will be for the keynote address, goodwill messages, speakers and panel discussions.The overall aims of this event are to increase awareness and invoke a passion for ICT in the girls. This will increase the number of girls that participate in the ICT sector, create more empowerment opportunities for girls, and help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals No.5 (SDG5), which is to achieve greater workforce diversity and gender equality in ICT.
