Description of the event

On the example of the eTwinning project: "Mathematics for a Better World", the topic was discussed: "Application of statistical functions and diagrams over statistical data on the Covid 19 virus in the Republic of Serbia". Through the behavior model of the Covid 19 virus, statistics are presented during a pandemic, using statistical functions and diagrams. The data were taken from the official website of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia and the Institute of Public Health "Dr Milan Jovanović Batut", in the period from March 2020 to the end of February 2021. Data on the number of tested, sick and deceased persons were processed on a daily basis.Subject teacher Milijana Petrović introduced students and colleagues to the eTwinning platform and the benefits of using it for students, teachers and the school as a whole. Then she presented the project "Mathematics for a Better World", whose author she is. The presentation was continued by third grade students, economic technicians: Aleksandra Nešić, Jelena Vasić, Ivana Ninković and Aleksandra Matić. They presented a summary overview, by months, for tested, sick and deceased persons. They predicted the trends for March and made a graphical presentation in the form of diagrams, comparing the data with each other and individually and formatting the obtained results. Also, in a very interesting way, they explained how they applied statistical functions to calculate the average, standard deviation, variance, coefficient of variance, median, maximum, minimum and others. They very successfully analyzed and compared the series of data of tested and ill persons using the correlation coefficient and showed the close connection of these phenomena. Using conditional formatting, they singled out which months had the most deaths. This was followed by a discussion involving many colleagues from neighboring countries and colleagues Nursevcan Doğru from Turkey, who participated in the preparation of the quiz for students. Also, a colleague showed our joint learning scenario, on the same topic, on a course at the European Schoolnet Academy.
