Description of the event
|
The Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Malta has collectively joined forces with academia, the private sector and international organisations to inspire young girls to consider ICT as a future career option, by raising awareness, improvinggender balance, and reducing inequality. The main goal of the virtual event is to make girls and young women in Maltese schools aware of the possibilities offered by ICTs and give them the confidence to pursue ICT studies and careers. In addition to focusing on girls, the Girls in ICT Day aims to raise awareness among parents, teachers and other influencers in girls’ lives.KEY MESSAGESEducate about girls’ capabilities in ICTs, highlighting women’s many contributions to date, such as the first software developed was created by six women mathematicians called ‘’computers’’• Underline the potential for ICT’s to strengthen the protection of women and girls from all• forms of violence and address causes of conflict.• Emphasise the different ‘types of people’ that are successful in a range of ICT careers.• Provide opportunities to meet a range of young female role models• Look into the possibility of offering workplace experience / taster days – particularly girls-only events.ICT as a career choice is truly exciting. Research shows that more than 65% of students will work in jobs that don’t exist today. By engaging participants in Girls in ICT Day, we hope to help prepare for that future, encouraging more and more girls to consider careers in ICT.
