Description of the event
IT Girls Initiative, a joint UN initiative implemented by UNDP, UNICEF and UN Women, is committed to promoting girls’ and women’s digital literacy and closing the digital gender gap ensuring girls and women in Bosnia and Herzegovina have access and can utilize technology and digital tools at the same level as boys and men. During the period April 8 - April 22, in collaboration with three IT companies, Mistral, Bicom Systems, and Lanaco, IT Girls created an online competition comprised of 3 online challenges for girls and women, aged 15-20 years old, in simple coding or solving logical problems. The competition was looking to encourage girls and women to use logic or simple coding in solving puzzles or problems. The competition will culminate with the awarding ceremony and marking of the Girls in ICT Day. IT Girls are organizing an online event on the 22nd of April, 2021 at 14h when the winners of the Girls in ICT Day Online challenge will be announced and the awarding ceremony held.REPORT:During the period April 8 - April 22, in collaboration with three IT companies, Mistral, Bicom Systems, and Lanaco, IT Girls created an online competition comprised of 3 online challenges for girls and women, aged 15-20 years old, in simple coding or solving logical problems. The competition was looking to encourage girls and women to use logic or simple coding in solving puzzles or problems. Online challenges were posted on the itgirls.ba webpage, where we reached more than 1500 unique users. The campaign reached 10 countries around the world, even though the competition was open only for national candidates. This showed us that girls are more willing to participate in online events. Besides, challenges were published on our social media channels where we reached more than 4000 people on Facebook only. The competition culminated with the awarding ceremony on the Girls in ICT Day where we awarded four girls and highlighted one more time the importance of the private sector and international organizations working together to create systemic changes. The final event was organized via the Zoom platform that gathered more than 30 participants.
