The first ever coding club for girls in Iraq will be opened in Basra City in March 22, 2021, inspired by Girls in ICT Day, an ITU initiative. The free after-school coding club for girls will be set up in one of the vacant classrooms at an intermediate school for girls in Basra City. In the first phase, the invitation to attend the club will be extended to girls attending seventh and eighth grades in 22 intermediate and secondary schools for girls in Shatt Al Arab District, Basra Governorate. A local software designer experienced in apps development will train girls on fundamentals of apps coding. The project is implemented by Mercy Hands for Humanitarian Aid and supported by Mercy Hands Europe www.mercyhandseurope.org
