Event description:

1. Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) will be the driver of “Hour of Code”
(HOC): #MYGirlsCan campaign, in collaboration with Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia

2. The proposed campaign period is from 21st April to 1st May 2021

3. This campaign will use Code.org’s learning coding platform. From the vast
selection of themes available on this platform, MDEC will identify related HOC
activities with girl-related theme e.g. Frozen. More info on HOC, please visit

4. MDEC will develop creative materials and collaterals and invite our Digital Maker
Hub (DMH) endorsed partners (DMH @ School and DMH @ Industry) to join as
implementers. For more info on Digital Maker Hub, please visit

5. DMH partners to reach out and invite girls from primary and secondary school
under their purview or locality to participate and conduct the identified HOC
activities.

6. Upon completion of HOC activities, students will be able to download a digital
certificate provided by Code.org.

7. DMH partners to facilitate submission of students’ details via a registration form
which will be provided by MDEC. This form is proposed to be capturing the
students’ details and photo of the students completing the activities as proof of participation.

8.MDEC will select winners for the following categories:

a. Categories for students: Each state and federal territories will have 2
winners comprising of student from Primary and Secondary school each.
The winners will be chosen based on lucky draw format

b. Categories for DMH: DMH with Most Participants for each DMH @ School
and DMH @ Industry

9. MDEC will be announcing the winners 2 weeks after the closing date

Objectives:

1. Creating awareness amongst girls about technology and introducing them to the
world of computer science

2. Demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden girls’
participation in the field of computer science

Venue:

This campaign will conducted fully online via #mydigitalmaker’s website and Facebook
channel. All collaterals such as campaign info kit for participants will also be made
available on the same platforms.

MDEC has been mandated to transform school students from digital users to digital innovators since 2016 via #mydigitalmaker Movement. Through the movement, MDEC has been recognized as International Partner of Code.org since 2017 and has been organizing annual HOC activities since then.As part of our effort to increase awareness and participation by students in digital making and innovation, it is proposed that all primary and secondary school students who participated in activities under Girls in ICT Malaysia to be awarded with a digital badge via #mydigitalmaker Hero.(https://mdec.my/mydigitalmaker-hero/).
