Description of the event

On April 22 the University of Lodz will again host the Girls in ICT Day. During the meeting we will encourage young women to link their future with the ICT industry and showcase opportunities STEM training (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, including social sciences and humanities) can bring to their future professional careers. This falls in line with the overall objective of the programme, trying to reach young girls on the threshold of their careers and encourage them to choose ICTs as a path for future professional development. Our specific focus will be to highlight to young women ICT career opportunities based on social sciences and founded in law, sociology, political science, psychology next to the traditional approach of natural science background. UoL offers the unique opportunity to look at ICTs from both perspectives: social and natural sciences based.
The main element of the event will be IT workshops for 30 girls aged 13-15 attending schools in Łódź cooperating with the largest university in Łódź under the "University always open" program. The workshop will be hosted by the Faculty of Physics. Participants will learn the basics of programming and robotics. This programming workshop will be preceded by an online meeting on online security and career prospects for girls in ICTs.
