IFT AND MOBILE TELECOMMUNICATIONS DEALERS ANNOUNCES MEASURES TO SUPPORT USERS IN THE FACE OF THE CORONAVIRUS CONTINGENCY - 06/04/2020
Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT)
TELECOM/ICT Policy Makers and Regulators | The Americas | Mexico
As a result of the work led and coordinated by the IFT with the industry, the mobile telecommunications service concessionaires will support their users during the health emergency. If required, users of prepaid mobile services will have the possibility of enabling, for a single occasion, a free emergency plan that will contain at least 100 voice minutes and 150 short messages (SMS) and will be able to continue receiving free calls and SMS messages to avoid being cut off during the contingency. To support their postpaid customers, some mobile service providers will allow their customers to migrate, temporarily and without penalties, to preferential pricing plans during the contingency. In order to monitor the continuity of services and monitor the performance of the networks during the contingency, the IFT and the operators have reinforced the reporting and exchange of information on the traffic and use of the networks. The IFT has a microsite where, in addition to finding recommendations for the responsible use of telecommunications networks, it will include all the information on these and other support that concessionaires will provide to their users during the contingency.
