Not long ago many schools banned smartphone use in classrooms, and suddenly the pandemic forced so many classes to be done online, several students with limited connectivity had their studies jeopardized. We also tried to address this issue in the #liberaowifi action, described above. But there also issues with the educational platforms themselves: many of them are not adapted to low bandwidth, local culture and some are even platforms for political influencing. As such, CooLab decided to start a research on free and open source educational frameworks that can be implemented in community networks and adapted for schools with precarious infrastructure. We are working with local teachers and students to achieve this. The results of this investigation will be made public in our wiki.
