As a result of childhood illness, Matthew was born with profound to severe hearing loss. Despite this disability, he has refused to allow it to define him or his career. Having lived and worked in over 8 countries, been involved in €8bn of advisory deals in the utilities sector from water to energy to telecommunications, Matthew set-up Goshawk Communications to bridge the technology and innovation gap between the science of audiology, digital signal processing and the telecommunications network. As a social entrepreneur, he realized that people with hearing loss needed enabling technology to participate more fully and with confidence in an increasingly digitalized world; Goshawk’s IPR is that enabling technology. Solution - Goshawk Communication Ltd Goshawk has developed a network-based solution that enhances, personalizes telephone calls according to an individual’s specific hearing loss – like a ‘hearing-aid-in-the-sky’. It is an enabling, inclusive technology designed to allow them to communicate more naturally with family, friends and colleague without the need for special equipment, devices, behaviour or even an APP. By using special algorithms to measure and process hearing loss profiles, Goshawk ensures that hearing loss or disability is no longer a barrier that separates people but acts as a bridge between those that can and cannot hear; it unites people divided by hearing loss.
