Dr Ken Okong’o is the Policy and Advocacy Manager working across Digital Identity and Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation within Mobile for Development Team of GSMA Foundation. Through research and advocacy, his current role entails working with governments, development community and mobile operators across the globe in shaping the policy and regulatory landscape for a digital humanitarian future as well in positioning of the mobile platform as an enabler of digital identity for a greater global socio-economic welfare. Prior, Ken served in strategic roles in both private and public sectors in Africa and Asia. He has worked both in the regulation and the mobile service provision as well as in the development sector in Africa and Asia, including Global e-Schools and Communities Initiative, Airtel, Orange, Etisalat, RighTel, Afghan Wireless and Ooredoo with a focus on universal service strategies, electronic governance, ICT4D policy frameworks, universal service strategies and telecom market studies. He holds an MSc in ICT Policy and Regulation from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, an MBA from University of Nairobi and a PhD in Information Systems from University of Cape Town, South Africa.
