BDT4Impact: inspiring young women to use tech to make a difference – the story of Giovana
In this short video, Giovana Soares De Amorim, an Information Systems student from Brazil, talks about her recent work on AI analysis. With a passion in data analysis, programming and tech management, Giovana was awarded a certificate in an undergraduate programme for her research on AI and its application to the teaching of geography.
For Giovana, technology was never a priority growing up until her teacher introduced her to the Americas Girls Can Code (AGCC) initiative, run by the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau.
Participating in the project as key in defining Giovana’s career path. Giovana was inspired by the project activities and teachings focused on coding and other STEM-related matters.
Her experience positively impacted her life and choices. For Giovana, technology “has a social impact”.
About the Americas Girls Can Code:
The project, which targeted girls, young women, and persons with disabilities, was implemented by the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) within the framework of the Americas Girls Can Code initiative. Its main objective was to promote the development of digital skills among girls and young women in the Americas, while also supporting beneficiary countries in reviewing and adopting digital inclusion policies and strategies.
