{"id":35,"date":"2023-06-22T13:19:39","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T13:19:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.itu.int\/highlights-report-activities\/2022-2023\/?page_id=35"},"modified":"2023-06-28T15:10:39","modified_gmt":"2023-06-28T15:10:39","slug":"e-waste","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.itu.int\/highlights-report-activities\/2022-2023\/ict-action%ef%bf%bc\/e-waste\/","title":{"rendered":"E-waste"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Managing e-waste and building a circular economy to eliminate it<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"ituContainer grid\">\n        <div data-span=\"12\">\n                                <section>\n        <div class=\"ituContainer grid\">\n            <div class=\"introduction\" data-span=\"8\">\n                <p>\n                    ITU is very active in tackling the challenges of e-waste at the global, regional and national level, working on key aspects that will make the circular economy work for electronics and e-waste \u2013 data collection, policy improvement, regulatory development, standards and partnership building.                <\/p>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n                                <section>\n    <div class=\"text-section\">\n        <div class=\"ituContainer grid\">\n                                        <div class=\"text-section-left\" data-span=\"8\">\n                        <p>\n        <strong>Building circular economies for e-waste around the world<\/strong><br>Through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itu.int\/en\/ITU-D\/Environment\/Pages\/Priority-Areas\/National-WEEE-Policy-Support.aspx\">e-waste policy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itu.int\/en\/ITU-D\/Environment\/Pages\/Priority-Areas\/E-waste-Data-Support.aspx\">data programme<\/a> ITU has helped nine countries become more circular economies: Botswana, Burundi, Dominican Republic, Gambia, Malawi, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, and Uzbekistan.\u00a0<br><br>In close cooperation with the UN Environment Programme, over 300 individuals from these countries were consulted \u2013 including public and private sector actors, civil society, ICT ministries, ICT regulators, ministries of environment and environment agencies, customs, industry and trade departments and municipalities.
