Dr. Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad is currently the Secretary General of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia of Malaysia.
She received her Ph.D in Strategic Social Planning from University of Leeds, United Kingdom after completing her Masters Degree in Human Resource Development from University of Pittsburgh, USA.
Appointed as a Malaysian Diplomatic and Administrative Officer in 1981, she has been working in various Ministries in the home sector as well as in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minister Counselor at Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations, New York).
As a social planner and gender expert, she has been actively involved in promoting sustainable development agenda and gender equality both at national and international levels. She has played a key role in the strategic planning and programme-designing to ensure that sustainable development pillars and gender perspectives are integrated and mainstreamed into Government policies and plans.
