SNIPPETS - Nigeria

Date: 27-29 August 2018: The Annual Human Capacity Building Workshop hosted by Digital Bridge Institute. The theme for 2018 was "Strengthening Capacities in Internet Governance in Africa” hosted by Digital Bridge Institute.

Objective: Provide a platform for countries from the Africa region to share experiences, strengthen their knowledge and raise awareness on matters concerned with the theme selected for the year through a multi-stakeholder approach involving representatives from government, academia, ICT/telecoms regulators and ministries, industry, civil society, NGOs and other organizations. These workshops also provide the opportunity for professionals dealing with capacity building and skills development to interact with those dealing with policies, management, planning and development.

Number of Participants: 101 participants from 14 countries, 6 international/regional organizations from which 33 were foreigners and remaining from Nigeria. Among the participants there were professionals from governments, regulatory authorities, ICT industry both from public and private sector and academia. It should be noted that no fellowship were available for this event.

Results /Impact: Enhanced the awareness and the understanding of the Internet Governance from the various stakeholder’s perspectives i.e. Governments, Regulators, NGOs, Private Sector and Civil Society and the complexity of issues involved.
