Information Session on Fostering E-waste Management across Africa, 17 June 2021

The information session on Fostering e-waste management across Africa will take place on Thursday, 17 June 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 (CET / CAT). The session will bring together around 50 participants from Africa including national government representatives, industry, mainstream media, international e-waste experts, development banks, international organisations and e-waste experts.

The event will present the toolkit Policy Practices for E-waste Management that draws on experiences from developing countries and emerging markets, particularly from African countries. The toolkit provides governments with a guide that outlines the system requirements for the management of e-waste.

The session will showcase examples of government efforts in the region, with presentations from Malawi, South Africa and Rwanda (TBC), and it will explore the need for regional cooperation and harmonization to combat the growing e-waste challenge in Africa.

The event also aims at highlighting how ITU is providing support to countries across Africa in response to the growing magnitude of e-waste, including discarded ICT equipment, and its impacts on the environment, the economy and human health.
