Recommendation ITU-T Y.3534 provides an overview and functional requirements of function as a service (FaaS). It introduces the definition and advantages of FaaS and describes the logical components of FaaS and the lifecycle of functions in FaaS. It provides typical use cases of FaaS and specifies its functional requirements from the perspective of four logical components, namely interactive action support, elastic resource support, operation and maintenance support, and measuring and billing support. It also provides a relationship analysis between FaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), software as a service (SaaS) and serverless computing.
