Summary - Y.3223 (08/2025) - Fixed, mobile and satellite convergence – Multi-access edge computing for IMT-2020 networks and beyond

Fixed, mobile and satellite convergence (FMSC) refers to the capability of providing services and applications to end users, regardless of the access technology being used (fixed, mobile or satellite). Multi-access edge computing (MEC) is deployed at the edge of the FMSC network as a computing resource. It brings core network capabilities, such as computing, storage, acceleration, content, security and other services to the edge of the FMSC network, which helps reduce service transmission delays and effectively alleviates the business data demand for network bandwidth in the FMSC network.
Recommendation ITU-T Y.3223 specifies the requirements, scenarios, framework, network function enhancements, procedures and security considerations for MEC in FMSC within IMT-2020 networks and beyond.
