Summary - L Suppl. 64 (06/2026) - ITU-T L.1420 – Supplement on carbon emission accounting and allocation methods for shared infrastructure base station sites

In recent years, with the rapid development of 5G networks, more and more telecom operators have adopted shared infrastructure base station sites to reduce the construction and operation costs and the difficulty of 5G network site acquisition.
It is necessary to establish a greenhouse gas (GHG) emission accounting and allocation method for the shared base stations so as to help relevant telecom operators define and undertake their responsibilities for GHG emission accounting and carbon reduction, and promote the low-carbon and high-quality development of the information and communication technology (ICT) industry.
Supplement 64 to ITU-T L-series Recommendations focuses on shared infrastructure base station sites, including an introduction to sharing modes, GHG emission accounting methods and, in particular, GHG emission allocation methods.
