Summary

This supplement considers the use of TDM PON and TWDM PON for transport of mobile variable bitrate fronthaul traffic (a.k.a. Low Layer Split (LLS)). It identifies the requirements that are set by the fronthaul traffic, and the capabilities and functionalities of T(W)DM PON generations to support such requirements, including a description of possible trade-offs.

This document aims to help in the consideration of T(W)DM PON deployments for the use case of LLS, namely in the matching of mobile expectations with PON capabilities and vice-versa.
