Summary

Recommendation ITU-T E.164 provides the number structure and functionality for the eight categories of numbers used for international public telecommunication: geographic areas (see 4.1), global services (see networks 4.10), other global services (see 4.17), global satellite services) (see 4.9), Networks (see 4.17), groups of countries (see 4.14), resources for trial (see 4.21) and IoT/M2M services/applications (see 4.16). For each of the categories, it details the components of the numbering structure and the digit analysis required to successfully route the calls. Annex A provides additional information on the structure and function of international public telecommunication numbers (hereafter referred to as "international E.164 numbers").
