The meeting “Informal Consultations
on the WSIS Implementation Mechanism” was aimed at WSIS
stakeholders. As the meeting took place just ahead of
the 8th meeting of the ITU Council Working Group on the
World Summit on the Information Society (WG-WSIS) on 3-4
May, the outcomes of the discussion were reported
directly to the ITU WG-WSIS. The purpose of this informal consultation was to assess the
views of a representative sample of WSIS stakeholders on
the implementation mechanism to be adopted for the WSIS
Plan of Action. During WSIS PrepCom-2 in February, a
number of proposals were made on a possible implementation
mechanism. These are summarized in document DT-2 (Rev 2),
which contains a compilation of comments on the
operational part of the Tunis Final Documents (see paras
10-11), as well as contributions from the ITU
Secretary-General (DT-3) and the Russian Federation
(Contribution 13).
