Council Working Group - Terminology: Use in the Constitution and Convention

By Resolution 142

(Antalya, 2006), Council was instructed to establish a working group to review terminology used in the Constitution and Convention. The Group is to report annually and to prepare a final report to the 2009 Session of the Council.

Terms of Reference

to review the results of the work carried out in preparation for and at this conference, including the proposals to the conference;

to study the use of the term “telecommunication(s)” in the Constitution and Convention;

to consider what terms should be used in the Constitution and Convention in order to adequately reflect the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and ICT applications in ITU activities;

to identify options for integrating any new terminology in the Constitution and Convention, where appropriate;

to report to the Council annually on its progress with respect to the issues referred to above;

to prepare a final report, at the latest by the 2009 session of the Council, for transmission to the 2010 plenipotentiary conference;

to liaise with relevant Council working group(s) dealing with terminology.

The working group is open to all Member States of ITU.
