Abstract
The presentation includes some of ITU – BDT (Telecommunication Development Bureau) projects
related to IP (Internet Protocol) in Developing Countries and Least Developed Countries.
The projects are related to Internet Nodes and IP connectivity for universal access policy.
BDT activities are planned based on technical assistance requested by ITU-Members States in
the framework of Action Plans e.g. VAP (Valetta Action Plan AP), IsAP (Istanbul Action Plan)
adopted by the World Telecommunication Development Conferences of the ITU.
Biography
Désiré KARYABWITE joined ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) in 1997 as an Expert
in Telecommunication Management Information Systems and IP-based Networks. Since 2000, has
been working for BDT as the IP Coordinator in the E-Strategy Unit. He is managing IP activities
and assisting developing countries in setting up their IP-based networks and VoIP (Voice over
Internet Protocol) technology, policies and strategies. He also worked with Northrop Grumman,
Maryland, USA, as Coordinator of "Air Traffic Management System and Radio Access project" for
Rwanda, and Chief Executive Officer a.i. for RITA (Rwanda Information Technology Authority).
He was born in Rwanda in December 1963. He graduated from "Switzerland Federal Institute of
Technology - (EPFL)" as Electrical and Communication Engineer and he is also qualified in
Management of High-Technologies from EPFL. |
