ITU-T SG 5 Technical Session on "Lightning protection"

Introduction
The IEC Technical Committee (TC) 81 has recently approved a new series of standards on Lightning Protection
regarding the structures with its contents and
connected services and the services with connected structures.
The standards prepared by IEC TC 81 have been always used by ITU-T SG 5 in developing its
Recommendations and a liaison between IEC TC 81 and ITU-T SG 5 has been established from long time.
Moreover, studies on Lightning protection are carried out with the aid of experimental data from a triggered
lightning test site of Cachoeira Paulista - Brazil.
In order to inform ITU-T SG 5 members on the contents of these standards and on the experimental data results,
this Technical Session on "Lightning protection" has been agreed by SG 5 during its June 2005 meeting.

Objectives
The scope of the Technical Session is to present the IEC new standards underlining the new aspects and showing the critical
points.
The objective of the Technical Session is to define the SG 5 future work on the lightning protection taking into account
both the new standards and the results of experimental data from triggered lightning on the test site in Brazil.
