CVs of the speakers

Dr. Francesco Sicurello Doctor in Physics (specialized in Cybernetics), he had several years of experience (from 1978) in Medical Informatics.

Responsible of Medical Informatics Unit at the Institute of Biomedical Technologies of Milan (National Research Council).

Expert in informatics at the Health General Directorate (Research and Innovation Office) of Lombardia Region.

President of Italian Association in Telemedicine and Medical Informatics (@ITIM) and Professor in Informatics Applied to Medicine at University of Milan-Bicocca.

Referent for Telemedicine in the Scientific and Technological Cooperation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

His activity consists of the study and design of Health Information Systems, computerization of medical record and clinical database (statistical software) and application of artificial intelligence techniques in bio-medicine (expert systems, artificial neural networks, etc.).

He is responsible of several research projects on medical Informatics and Telemedicine, in the frame of Italian, European and International R&D Programmes.

He has been and is coordinator of projects in telemedicine and medical informatics in the frame of the scientific and technological cooperation between Italy and Romania, Croatia, Greece, Slovenia, Hungary and Egypt (supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

From 1978 to 1986 he carried on research activities in the project of epidemiological surveillance of Seveso population, affected by dioxine event, implementing the Health Information System.

In 1982 he took part in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics Commission of Lombardia Health Office.

Form 1986 to 1988 he has been research in medical informatics at Policlinical Hospital (scientific Directorate of Milan).

From 1989 to 1990 he has worked at the Health Programming Service of Lombardia Region (in particular he followed the experimentation of Smart Cards and of Authomatical Unique Booking Centres in several Lombardy health districts).

From 1991 to 1997 he has been responsible of a Research Group in computarization of medical record in the frame of the Finalized Program CNR/FATMA.

From 1997 to 2001 he has been Responsible of the Informatics Service at National Neurological Institute C. Besta, of Milan.

He had been Italian representative of MUG-E, M Users’ Group-Europe. (M is a programming language used in medical fields).

From 1987 he carried on didactic activity at the Health Physics Specialisation School and at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Milan, holding a course on medical informatics and statistical software.

In 1992 he has been visiting research at the Applied Physics Laboratory, John Hopkins University of Baltimore, where he has lead a research on knowledge-based medical information systems.

From 1989 to 1995 he was associate director of the bilingua (Italian/English) magazine "Medicine & Informatics", Pensiero Scientifico Ed.

From 1986 to 1999 he was member of the Steering Committee (as Italian delegate) of the EUROCARDS Concerted Action for the standardisation of data cards in healthcare.

Author of more of 130 publications (national and international) in Medical Informatics, Telemedicine and software for data analysis.
