Abstract
Optical and xDSL access technologies
The presentation will give a general overview on the existing scenario for access solutions and the trend in the technologies in terms of data rate.
Some detail will be given for xDSL technology, characteristics and performance, using the existing copper pairs, showing the various Recommendations related to the equipments that can be used depending on the services to be offered showing a comparison among the different xDSL solutions.
The optical technology will be introduced, giving a short view onoptical elements and transmission techniques developed in the last years. New equipments, such as high speed laser sources, optical amplifiers and integrated optics allowing very high speed data rate both in the single wavelength and WDM domains as well as in point-point/point-to-multipoint Passive Optical Networks solutions.
