Security in Next Generation Networks: FGNGN-Status and Direction |
|
This talk introduces the status of work on security in the ITU-T Focus Group on the Next Generation Network. Since its onset in 2005, the focus group has chartered a separate working group on security, which has started and advanced two major draft technical specifications: one on the requirements, and the other, on the NGN Security Framework. The group has identified the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) security as an important part of the overall NGN security, but it also stressed the importance of other subsystems and access. The work, is not starting from the beginning, of course. As the input to the process, the group has been striving to identify a comprehensive set of normative and informative texts produced by the ITU-T study groups, IETF, 3GPP, 3GPP2, ATIS, ETSI and others. The goal is harmonization of this substantial global effort, and it can be achieved only through close working relationship with all the groups that are producing the components of the future NGN standard. To this end, ITU-T SG 17 is by far the most essential group whose input and guidance are being sought. It has been the consensus of FG NGN that all future NGN security work be based on X.805 as the foundation.
