The Open Communications Architecture Forum (OCAF) Focus Group announces the availability of the Carrier Grade Open Environment (CGOE) Reference Model document on this official OCAF Web site.
The intended audience for this document is service providers, solution providers and technology providers, that build telecommunications solutions containing components from multiple, different, COTS software and hardware vendors.
This model is consistent with the concept that technology providers deliver components to solution providers who then subsequently provide solutions to service providers. OCAF members are using this CGOE Model to address functional and non-functional service requirements for an Internet Protocol (IP) based infrastructure thereby allowing greater separation of logical connection and control functions from physical transport and gateway functions. By opening up elements of the services infrastructure which perform control plane and transport plane functions it will allow the industry to promote best-of-breed component reuse and interoperability in a multi vendor COTS CGOE environment.
