Bridging the Standardization Gap (Res 123) |
What actions are being taken? |
Following this initiative a couple of
contributions have been sent to the TSAG meeting of December 2007 (C.55
and
C.42) and the TSB Director has prepared a report
on the latest activities carried out on bridging the standardization gap (TD 470)
The TSB Director has prepared a report to the 2007 session of Council (C07/EP/08), which sets out a base
line of statistical information against which progress in bridging the divide can be judged and explains
the actions taken to date. Actions planned or already taken include:
- To support the participation of developing countries in the standardization process Standards produced by ITU —
ITU-T Recommendations — are now available without charge. The announcement follows a highly successful trial conducted from January to September 2007, during which some two million ITU-T Recommendations were downloaded throughout the world.
- A number of ITU-T/ITU-D regional workshops are being held, including in Mendoza (Argentina), 24 September 2007
and
Kigali (Rwanda), 2-4 October 2007.
- A Circular Letter has been sent out announcing the establishment of a Fund to bridging the standardization gap,
to which all Member States and Sector Members are invited to contribute.
- The various steps taken by study groups may be found in
here.
- A progressive increase in the number of Study Group officials from developing countries (see Figure)
