HARMONISED ICT REGULATORY GUIDELINES SUB-REGIONAL VALIDATION WORKSHOP (ITU -EC project)

Accra, Ghana
 5-7 September 2005

In 2004, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) launched a regional project, in cooperation with the European Union, to support the establishment of an integrated ICT Market in West Africa. The project takes account of the UEMOA and ECOWAS vision for the telecommunications sector, shared by National Regulatory Authorities throughout the region, which is "to have a single liberalized telecommunications market in the Community, following on the adoption of uniform legislative and regulatory frameworks, and the interconnection and integration of national networks."

The workshop organized by WATRA with the support of the ITU will took place from 5 to 7 September 2005 in Accra, Ghana (Golden Tulip Hotel) at the kind invitation of National Communications Authority of Ghana. The draft Regulatory Guidelines developed through this project were reviewed and finalized at the workshop and adopted at the 3rd WATRA OGM (for more information, click here), which took place on 9 September 2005 in the same location, prior to their submission to ECOWAS.

A WATRA Chief Executive Officers’ Forum was held on 8 September 2005 at the same venue. For more information, click here (Programme).
