Ms Phillippa Biggs, Economist, ITU/SPM Phillippa Biggs is an economist and
qualified accountant within the ITU’s Corporate Strategy Division. She holds a
degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, an accountancy
qualification from the ICAEW and a Master’s degree in Economics for Development
from the University of Oxford, where she won the Oxford University Prize for the
Best Overall Performance in her Masters degree. She has also gained two separate
diplomas in Economics and Statistics from the UK’s Open University. Phillippa
has worked for the United Nations for eight years: firstly, as an Assistant
Economic Affairs Officer with UNCTAD’s Science and Technology for Development
Section and later as a consultant with UNIDO working in Tanzania and Egypt. She
is now an Economist with the ITU’s Corporate Strategy Division, where she is
editor and co-author of the World Information Society Report (www.itu.int/wisr)
and author of the Status of VoIP Worldwide Report and Confronting the Crisis
reports (www.itu.int/crisis2009).
She researches and analyses developments in broadband, VoIP and 3G markets
around the world.
