The fourth meeting of regional regulators’
associations was held on the afternoon of 4 February
2007 at the Dubai International Convention &
Exhibition Centre (DICEC), Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), Dubai, United Arab
Emirates. |

Representatives from seven
regional regulators associations presented their latest regulatory
activities followed by presentations from the ITU Regional Offices
highlighting areas of future work and cooperation within the framework
of the ITU Regional Initiatives adopted at the last World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-06).
The meeting provided participants with the opportunity to learn form
each other's activities, exchange experiences and information and meet
in person. The role of regional
regulators’ associations is essential to coordinating a harmonized
approach to facilitate the development of ICTs.

In addition, to allow regulators to make informed decisions based on
international practices, the ITU in partnership with the World Bank is
developing an online multilingual clearinghouse of regulatory decisions, called
ICT Dec. The pilot of the ICT Dec website was unveiled at this meeting and comments
were provided from regional regulators’ associations on its content and
functionality. |
