The fifth World Telecommunication/ICT
Indicators (WTI) Meeting took place in Geneva from 11 to 13 October 2006.
This meeting, organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT)
of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), has been taking place
regularly since 1996.
The purpose of the meetings is to review
the state of telecommunication/ICT statistics, definitions, collection,
methodology and dissemination. The focus of this year’s WTI Meeting will be the
discussion of definitions and recent indicators. Since the telecommunication/ICT
sector has been changing rapidly over the recent years, the indicators to
measure the telecommunication/ICT sector need to be adapted accordingly. The
impressive growth and changes in the mobile sector, particularly, call for the
revision of existing definitions.
The results will also help BDT
continuously adapt its activities on indicators to the evolving needs of the
sector.
