ITU Regional Cybersecurity Forum for Eastern and Southern Africa

Practical Information for Meeting Participants

1. Forum Venue

The Regional Cybersecurity Forum for Eastern and Southern Africa will be held at the Protea Hotel Safari Lodge, about 35 km from Lusaka.

(Please note that meeting participants who wish to stay at the lodge will need to do their hotel bookings through the COMESA Secretariat/Ms Joyce Bindawina, e-mail jmbindawina (at) comesa.int)

2. Getting to Lusaka, Zambia

There are daily flights from/to Lusaka by following airlines:

  • To/From Harare, Zimbabwe by Air Zimbabwe
  • To/From Johannesburg, South Africa by South Africa Airways (two flight daily except Sundays) and Zambia Airways (except Saturdays)
  • To/From Nairobi, Kenya by Kenya Airways (one flights daily)
  • To/From Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by Ethiopian Airlines (one flights daily)

There are also regular flights to other Southern Africa countries.

3. Arrivals and Transportation to the Forum Venue

Transportation will be provided by the Forum Organizers free of charge to and from the Airport. Please send your travel itinerary to the COMESA Secretariat. Send your travel itinerary to the COMESA Secretariat/Ms Joyce Bindawina, e-mail jmbindawina (at) comesa.int

4. Entry Requirements and Visas

A valid passport is required to enter Zambia. Visas can be issued from any Consulate or Embassy of Zambia in your country of origin.

If there is neither a Consulate nor an Embassy in the country of departure, participants are advised to send copies of their passports prior to departure to the Communications Authority of Zambia to enable the necessary arrangement to be made in due time to obtain an entry visa. Entry visa to some countries may require more than two weeks. The passport copies should be sent as early as possible.

5. Pre-Registration and Badging

Online pre-registration for the event is required. Please register using the form available on the event website at www.itu.int/ITU-D/cyb/events/2008/lusaka/registration/ 

Badging of the meeting participants will start at the meeting venue on Sunday, 24 August 2008 from 16:00 to 20:00 hours and on Monday, 25 August 2008 from 08:00 hours to 09:00 hours.

6. Working Languages

The working languages of the meeting will be English and French with simultaneous interpretation.

7. Currency

The official currency for Zambia is the Kwacha and the exchange rates are:

  • 1 USD = 3500 Kwacha
  • 1 Euro = 5200 Kwacha

Please note that these rates may be subject to change. See the Universal Currency Converter for the current exchange rate.

8. Electricity

The voltage is 220 volts / 50 Hz

9. Climate

Winter from May to September. Days are dry, sunny and cool to warm (20C - 25C) while evening temperatures drop sharply to 5C - 10C. 10. Health and Vaccinations

General requirements for Zambia will apply. Meeting participants are advised to contact the Embassy / High Commission in their home country for further details.

12. Accommodation and Hotel Bookings

Accommodation will be available at the venue, the Protea Hotel Safari Lodge at USD 115.00 per night not including VAT.
