The 2009 ITU Cybersecurity and ICT Applications Essay Competition winners will be selected based on the submitted applications (i.e. cybersecurity essay and curriculum vitae) received through the online form on the CYB website.

The initial selection will be made on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. The quality of the essay submitted by the candidate
  2. The candidate’s educational experience

Telephone interviews will be held with the short-listed candidates and based on these, the final winners will be chosen.

The winners of the 2009 ITU Cybersecurity and ICT Applications Essay Competition will be offered the opportunity of a consultancy contract within the ITU Development Sector's ICT Applications and Cybersecurity Division for three months during the autumn of 2009 *(or as per arrangements with the winners). The winners will also be given a contribution towards the cost of an economy class flight from their place of residence. In addition, they were also paid the sum of CHF 6000 towards living expenses for the duration of the contract.

After completion of the internships with the ITU Development Bureau's ICT Applications and Cybersecurity Division, the competition winners will be asked to write a short summary of their ITU internship experience which will be posted together with their essays on the dedicated ITU Cybersecurity Internship Programme website. The winners will also become part of ITU's Youth Alumni Programme.

Please be informed that the deadline for submitting applications for the 2009 ITU Cybersecurity and ICT Applications Essay Competition has passed. Information about the results of the competition will be posted in August 2009.

 

1 April 2009: Launch of 2009 ITU Cybersecurity and ICT Applications Essay Competition

1 April 14 June 2009: Applications accepted

14 June 2009: Deadline for applications

01 August 2009 (or as per arrangement with the competition winners): Start of the three month long 2009 cybersecurity and ICT applications internship programme in Geneva, Switzerland
