Holographs, digital avatars, robot avatars, flying networks and swarm intelligence are on the rise, thanks to Integrated IMT-2030 networks.\u00a0<br><br>These networks, powered by innovative technologies and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), promise to transform communication with immersive, user-centric experiences, bridging the physical and virtual worlds in unprecedented ways.\u00a0<br><br>Telepresence suits (a human-robot interface technology) is a key research trend in metaverse development. The 5G\/IMT-2020 concept includes Massive Communication; Immersive Communication; and Hyper-Reliable &amp; Low-Latency Communication (HRLLC).\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>ITU-R Recommendation M.2160-0 expanded these on IMT-2030 to include three more categories: AI and communication, ubiquitous connectivity, and integrated sensing and communication, which can support next-generation services and technologies (see figure on the right).\u00a0     <\/p>\n                        <h3 class=\"h5\">\n        Digital avatars in the metaverse\u00a0    <\/h3>\n                        <p>\n        Multimedia and human-centred communications, facilitated by IMT-2030, are expected to profoundly integrate physical and virtual worlds, with the metaverse as a platform. Mirror worlds are now being applied virtually and digital avatar technologies are replicating physical environments with remarkable accuracy.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>They require cutting-edge tools for virtual mapping, modelling, geospatial analysis, and systems capable of tracking user interactions and histories. Personalized digital avatars offer users exciting virtual experiences.\u00a0    <\/p>\n            <\/div>\n                                        <div class=\"text-section-right data-span-override\" data-span=\"4\">\n                    <div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"745\" height=\"733\" src=\"https:\/\/www.itu.int\/160\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/IMT-2030-Capabilities-post-SG5.png\" alt=\"IMT-2030 Capabilities post SG5\" class=\"wp-image-967\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1;object-fit:cover;width:589px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.itu.int\/160\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/IMT-2030-Capabilities-post-SG5.png 745w, https:\/\/www.itu.int\/160\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/IMT-2030-Capabilities-post-SG5-300x295.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 745px) 100vw, 745px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>            <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n    <section>\n    <div class=\"text-section\">\n        <div class=\"ituContainer grid\">\n                                        <div class=\"text-section-left\" data-span=\"8\">\n                        <h3 class=\"h5\">\n        Holographic technologies    <\/h3>\n                        <p>\n        Growing demand for telepresence services has led to a new ITU Standardization Sector-defined metaverse, along with multiverse technologies that will dominate future communication networks and systems. Researchers are gaining interest in this area, which is just getting underway. In our laboratory,<strong> <\/strong>MeganetLab 6G, we are developing:\u00a0    <\/p>\n                    <div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<li><strong>HoloLink. <\/strong>A platform supporting multiple devices, including holographic terminals, XR-devices, Holotar, and telepresence suits, with innovative methods to minimize network traffic volume.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<li><strong>Holotar. <\/strong>An advanced holographic avatar system utilizing a holographic robot.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<li><strong>KOLD Suit.<\/strong> A tool for motion capture, tactile feedback, and kinesthetic data transmission, part of the \u201cResearch on Ultra-Low Latency and Ultra-High Density Network Technologies Based on AI for 6G Networks\u201d project.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<li><strong>HoloFriend.<\/strong> A personal satellite companion enhancing professional and personal interactions within holographic societies.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>            <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n    <section>\n    <div class=\"text-section\">\n        <div class=\"ituContainer grid\">\n                                        <div class=\"text-section-left\" data-span=\"8\">\n                        <h3 class=\"h5\">\n        Challenges    <\/h3>\n                        <p>\n        We won\u2019t be meeting those avatars and holograms on the streets just yet. The technical road ahead includes:\u00a0    <\/p>\n                    <div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<li>Scalable, decentralized network architectures capable of supporting ultra-dense environments&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<li>Seamless holographic communication protocols&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<li>Interoperability among a wide array of devices and technologies&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<li>Incorporating AI, XR, and robotics into communication ecosystems&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<li>Enhancing user personalization and avatar functionality&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"ituContainer\">\n<li>Enabling multisensory telepresence, and interactive holographic environments &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>                        <h3 class=\"h5\">\n        Artificial Intelligence in IMT-2030 and metaverse\u00a0\u00a0    <\/h3>\n                        <p>\n        AI enables pre-standardization processes, which is a natural progression from autonomous network concepts in IMT-2020. The ITU-T Focus Group on Autonomous Networks, part of Study Group 13, explored this first.\u00a0<br><br>Currently, numerous ITU-T recommendations and frameworks focus on integrating AI into communication networks to achieve network autonomy.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>The continuity between IMT-2020 and IMT-2030 makes the work on autonomous networks a rational progression in the evolution of 6G\/IMT-2030 networks.
