Laureate 2010
Statement by Mr Wang Jianzhou, Chairman and CEO, China Mobile

Ladies and Gentlemen:
Good afternoon!
It is my great honor to receive the 2010 ITU World Telecommunication and Information Society Award, which is not only a prize for myself, but also a recognition for China Mobile. This year we witness the 10th anniversary of China Mobile’s official establishment. Thanks to the great support from different communities, as well as the huge market demand and ever-developing information and communication technologies, China Mobile has grown up through the past decade to become a telco with remarkable network scale and market capitalization.
As mobile communications change the way we live, cellphone has become an indispensible part of our daily life. Today, from remote islands to small villages, or even on top of the Mount Qomolangma, people everywhere are able to enjoy the convenience enabled by ICT via cellphone. For telecom operators, it is important to not only seize development opportunities, but also shoulder their responsibilities. Facing numerous challenges such as financial crisis, climate change, energy shortage etc., telcos should further practise their social responsibilities, among which the most important one is to help companies and individuals raise efficiency, lower cost, reserve energy and lower carbon emission, by way of adopting ICT technologies.
I would like to take this occasion to express our sincere gratitude for all your help and support to China Mobile through the years. Thank you, our regulators, for your support. Thank you, colleagues in the equipment vendor and content provider communities, for your help and cooperation. Thank you, our customers, for your understanding and loyalty. My thanks also goes to the International Telecommunication Union.
Today, at her 145th birthday, ITU has become a great promoter and contributor for international telecom standardization, telecom infrastructure improvement, network and technology evolution, as well as development of business and service specifications.
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Just as progress of communication and information technologies boosted human economic and cultural development, new service architectures including the Internet of Things will bring further and more profound influence to the world. We look forward to better human welfare brought by broader ICT applications, and are ready and willing to make our own contributions along this journey.
Thank you very much!
