Activity: Income Generation Project for Farmers using ICT
website of the activity

Activity description: The project aims to generate income for rural female farmers in Bangladesh. The model farmers produce quality vegetables (QVegie) by using no chemical fertilizers/pesticides and sell them to urban customers. ICT was used for three purposes: (1) To digitize and disseminate advanced farming knowledge to the farmers (2) To upload product information to the e-commerce site (3) To smoothly establish communication between farmer-farmer, farmer-expert, and farmer-consumer. In 6 farming seasons (three years), we worked in two pilot sites, engaged 35-50 farmers, focused on 5 major vegetables and estimated that QVegie can bring 2-3 times more income to the farmers. We aim to franchise the model to other communities.
