The Appalachian Knowledge Economy radio broadcasts introduced successful models for civic engagement, rural broadband deployment, and sustainable community development. Guests included sustainable community development and knowledge economy leaders, value theory experts, prominent university catalysts, and rural broadband deployment sparkplugs. Selected models were marked for Axiological curriculum integration. Dr. Michael Fallacaro of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond reports on a distance learning model for training rural nurses in Appalachia to become nurse anesthetists who remain in the region. Anthony Flaccavento built a nationally recognized, entrepreneurial non-profit, Appalachian Sustainable Development, which provides a model for asset based, sustainable economic development.
