Connecting, Strengthening and Pioneering Voice through Community Radio in Bangladesh
Activity description:
Bangladesh historically has significant experience in electronic media and its role in social and economic development. Although media, in general and electronic media in particular are being dominated by government and private sector corporate business houses, the civil society felt that the community should also have a strong stake in the media as well. Recently with the strong advocacy and lobbying program, the government has expressed its willingness and has now opened up the licensing of community radio to the community people. With the existing void in the community regarding media operation, management and presenting their voice effectively, the need for strengthening the operations and management of CR is now a high priority.
The proposed project has been designed in the manner in which both the community media i.e. local/community newspapers and forthcoming CR will be strengthened for the better exposure of the community issues in the local media. If the proposed project is carried out, the capacity of the community media will be strengthened and empowered especially the forthcoming CR initiators will be better prepared for functioning.
