Activity description:
Med Net'U (funded by EUMEDIS programme) project aimed to the creation of a Euro-Mediterranean distance-university for both academic and lifelong vocational traning courses. Pedagogically-rich most relevant actions of the project have included:
- the design of academic common curricula among partner countries, designed with particular attention to multiculturalism and multilingualism issues, in order to deliver joint-degree acknowledged by partner universities from several countries;
- analysis and design of online learning environments that could provide advanced services for e-learning by offering different types of learning (symbolic-reconstructive, learning-by-doing, collaborative learning);
- the design and implementation of both customized and teachers-driven learning scenarios, based on multimedia innovative educational content of different kind (video, audio, textual and visual manipulations) but linked together through a new hypermedia content linking system.
MedNet'U Working Group has continued (even after the MedNet'U project ending) the construction of a Euro-Mediterranean Distance University model; MedNet’U Working group presented the guidelines for a EuroMediterranean Distance University to the Conference of Rectors of Catania 2003, and the progress report in the Catania Conference of 2005. Networking between Euro-Mediterranean Universities and international agreements between ministries of the University of Euro-Mediterranean countries, for the international acknowledgement of university degrees, have led to the birth of the International Telematic UNINETTUNO, the first university in the world capable to deliver courses in Italian, French, English and Arabic. At this time the University has UNINETTUNO enrolled students from more than 35 different countries, and about 250 students are enrolled from Egypt.
