|Description de l'activité:
Alcatel’s DBI creates win-win models based on innovative use of ICT in underserved regions in emerging countries.
Activities include supporting local partners through "partnership centres" designed to incubate innovative ideas for local ICT-based services, and the realization of pilot trials of those services in rural and under-served areas. Specific projects include:
- the inauguration in December 2003 of the first "Partnership Space" in Tunis, Tunisia. Here Alcatel is working with local companies to develop multimedia service projects adapted to the needs of local users. Twenty services have been developed since the launch, which are being offered to Tunisian and regional mobile operators. A second partnership space at Alcatel’s Cairo office is already operational and will be inaugurated in summer 2005.
- a mobile services project in Senegal targeted at individual Senegalese farmers, allowing them to use a GSM mobile, PDA or the Internet to get real time information on the price and arrival status of their products at market. Market information is entered on PDAs and sent over the GSM network to a database designed by Alcatel partner Manobi, where it is available via Internet, WAP or SMS. The service improves the quality of life of local players and encourages operators to improve coverage in undeserved areas. Alcatel and Manobi will announce a second project in Africa shortly.
