Activity description: It is in cities that people gather to achieve rapid and harmonious material and cultural development, and efficient and effective use of natural, special, intellectual, and technological resources. It is in cities that civilizations integrate and evolve. While addressing challenges and problems in the process of development, cities maintaining their glamour and keep improving, and Arab cities are not an exception of that. Those challenges and problems are facing citiesí inhabitants on daily basis, forming a wide spectrum of issues, ranging from environmental, infrastructural, traffic congestion, solid waste disposal, delivery of services, etc. However, since the inception of the ICT, world governments and municipal leaders are hoping the new technology could help them overcome such challenges and problems in the future, through the use of information and communication technologies (ICT). The MENA regionís representation among these cities does not commensurate with the regionís size and income level. An important part of the reason for this lies in the fact that no regional champion and resource-center sensitized to the regionís issue has emerged. AUDI, as the regionís pre-eminent organization for urban decision-makers, can play this role as it mobilizes its resources and those of its partners to assist its membership in learning about the undertaking CICTS. The overall thrust of the ICT Strategy is to raise awareness, stimulate demand for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and promote the City as a location that embraces ICT in its widest sense in order to help with sustainable development for the cities and assist in achieving the objectives of the WSIS and Millennium Development Goals. The benefits of such strategies would be reflected in everything that takes place throughout business, social, community, education and local government. This project aims to set out the Arab city approach of using Information and Communications Te The overall thrust of the ICT Strategy is to raise awareness, stimulate demand for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and promote the City as a location that embraces ICT in its widest sense in order to help with sustainable development for the cities and assist in achieving the objectives of the WSIS and Millennium Development Goals. The benefits of such strategies would be reflected in everything that takes place throughout business, social, community, education and local government. ACTION PLAN: To actively collaborate with Arab cities in the analysis of current ICT status (e-readiness evaluation), future requirements and vision resulting in the creation of tailor ICT strategies derived and aligned with the country level ICT strategy. Publishing Draft templates for ICT strategies to the Arab cities and municipalities. Organizing regional conferences and workshops focusing on the Arab cities CICTS. Working in partnership with the private sector to develop and support the CICTS in the major Arab cities. This project has been submitted to the Golden Book database.
