The European Commission, DG Information Society & Media, has launched a series of measures to support the creation of comprehensive eGovernment services across all levels of the European Union. The eGovernment Good Practice Framework (GPF) is a centrepiece in this strategy, contributing to the eEurope 2005 and the recent i2010 Information Society initiatives of the European Commission. The project is being led by BearingPoint Germany.
The main objectives of the GPF are:
· To collect examples for well-defined eGovernment cases
· To make the examples available for those involved in eGovernment by means of an intelligent knowledge base
· To offer expert know-how on general or special eGovernment features
· To inform on related news, events and links
· To support the sustainable transfer of good practices and learning experiences in an easy and helpful way.
About 100 days after the launch of the Good Practice Framework (GPF), the portal has received much attention from those involved in eGovernment in Europe. At present 538 experts and members are registered on the GPF, and 121 cases have been submitted. Visitors to the website come from more than 60 countries, including all 25 member states of the European Union as well as from North and South America and Australia. Users will not only find detailed information about good practice cases but the contact details of each user is made available – this facilitates the transfer of knowledge.
The GPF can be used as a central source of information, e.g. for an overview on the status of eGovernment issues. By publishing successful eGovernment projects on the GPF members will be able to reach an international audience very much interested in each-others project achievements and experiences as well as assist in enhancing eGovernment throughout Europe.
