The SOCINFO-RJ Program was launched in occasion of the International Information Society Seminar that took place in the state of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) on June 12 and 13, 2003. It came into being as a development of the international SocInfo Programs (WSIS, World Summit on the Information Society) and the national one (SocInfo Brazil), but has been guided by the demands of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The Science, Technology and Innovation system of the RJ state (SCT,UERJ,UENF,FAPERJ,CECIERJ,PRODERJ)is add of mainly federal entities (five Universities;FIOCRUZ Health Complex;Military Institutes of the Army and the Navy;EMBRAPA Agricultural Research;Agencies FINEP,CNPq,CAPES) and private sources, such as the Catholic University PUC-Rio.
