The Swiss registry offices administrate registers of the civil status events as birth, death, marriage and child acknowledgment. These events are recorded by the registry offices responsible for the event location. Furthermore the registry office of the location of residence of the Swiss citizen 'maintain' the family register as a 'collective-register'. There in all civil status events and the decrees of the administrative authorities (e.g. concerning the divorce) and court, important for civil status, are registered. In the past the Swiss civil status registers have been led locally, often communal. "INFOSTAR" automates and connects the civil registry offices throughout Switzerland. The Swiss Governance operates a central data base, the data collection for the cantons however happens further decentralized in the cantons. The informatics service center (ISC) of the Federal Department of Justice and Police develope and operate the system "Infostar" on behalf of the Federal Office of Justice (OFJ). On 2003 a pilot System was accomplished and afterwards within some months the system was deployed throughout Switzerland. Full Operation was reached at the end of 2004. The application "Infostar" is adapted constantly to the current legal defaults and decrees.
