Cisco Systems, Inc., and the Cisco Learning Institute (CLI) partnered in April, 2000, to develop the Gender Initiative. The goal of this project is to increase females' access to IT training and career opportunities, beginning with the Cisco Networking Academy Program. This is accomplished through research, targeted gender projects, a best practices repository, marketing, a gender module, and building an ecosystem of partners. The Gender Initiative has been implemented through the Cisco Networking Academy Program around the globe, including targeted gender projects in partnership with several international organizations such as UNIFEM, USAID, UNDP, and ITU. A Women In Technology scholarship program is being implemented by USAID Asia Near East Bureau and the Institute for International Education.
