Towards an integrated knowledge society in the Arab countries - strategies and implementation modalities website of the activity
Activity description:
The study (E/ESCWA/ICTD/2005/3, English/Arabic) proposes ten steps and a number of recommendations to improve the process of crafting and implementing strategies towards the knowledge society in the Arab countries. Among them, to be realistic in crafting the strategies, to learn from best practices, to ensure leadership, to avoid duplication of activities and to provide an environment for attracting funds and facilitating dialog. Three main concerns in the Arab countries are analyzed, namely, partnership, financing and clusters. Such recommendations are based on two case studies in Lebanon and Yemen, and examples from China, Lebanon, European Community, India, Egypt, Chile, Jordan and UAE.
