The Roundtable was held in Beirut during 29-30 April 2004, and was the first within the regional preparatory activities of ESCWA for the Tunis phase of WSIS, November 2005. The goal of the meeting was to draw up a regional initiative involving partnerships among stakeholders leading to projects that will fall within the framework of the second phase of WSIS. It resulted in the formulation of the regional cyber hub initiative for economic development, which was integrated into the proposed regional plan of action for building the information society, presented for adoption at the Second Regional Preparatory Conference for WSIS (November 2004).
